Popee the Performer is a short animation series originating in Japan made in 2001. It’s about 3 performers in a zurkus, in the middle of the desert, who are always attempting new, dangerous stunts. At the end of most episodes, they die in horrible ways. It could also be known as the yiffy circus anime.
It seems as though this series was made on a cheap animating software created with a nokia 225. Although it has terrible animations, they are somewhat endearing and give Popee and his friends their signature jerky movements.
This is Popee. His/her gender is unkown, but the fanbase is on either side 50-50, give or take a few. He/she is presumably 17 years old and is more or less the main protagonist, as the title suggests. Usually he/she is the one trying some new stunt which ends up injuring him/her greatly or just plain out killing him/her. Popee is a humanoid with a red and white horizontally striped jumpsuit, with a neon-turquoise messenger bag. He/she also wears a pink hat with tall bunny ears that droop near the halfway point.
Popee seems to have excellent tennis skills, gunman skills, sword swallowing skills, and many more.
Kedamono, or Beast as literally translated, is Popee’s companion and has a mask that can show his facial expression. When he shows a new expression, his current mask drops off, revealing the new expression underneath. Beast is a purple wolf with short ears, and only his open mouth can be seen under the mask, he also wears orange boxers with yellow stars on them.
Beast seems to be pretty sane, compared to Popee, but he gets excited when he sees a chicken leg.
Papi is the supposed owner of zurkus, and is believed to be Popee’s father. He seems to be a pyromaniac, as he always seems to have some sort of bomb with him. He wears a sun hat and a fake mustache. He’s usually happy and shows concern when someone gets hurt.
Paula, or the “elephant car”, is what Papi uses to get around. Popee cannot hold a candle to Paula because Paula is practically an indestructible power. She has a very “take no prisoners” attitude and is also, but very minimally, attracted to Beast. Beast, however, shows no affection to her.
